The DRV8825 Stepper Motor Driver with Aluminum Heat Sink is a breakout board based on TI’s DRV8825 microstepping bipolar stepper motor driver.

This module features a pinout and interface nearly identical to the A4988 stepper motor driver, making it an ideal drop-in replacement for higher performance in many applications.

The DRV8825 offers adjustable current limiting, overcurrent and overtemperature protection, and supports six microstep resolutions, down to 1/32-step. It operates within a voltage range of 8.2V to 45V and can deliver up to 1.5A per phase without a heat sink or forced airflow (up to 2.2A per coil with additional cooling).

Features:

  • Microstep resolutions: full-step, 1/2-step, 1/4-step, 1/8-step, 1/16-step, and 1/32-step

  • Simple step and direction control interface

  • Adjustable current control via a potentiometer, allowing use of higher voltages than your stepper motor's rated voltage to achieve faster step rates

  • Intelligent chopping control that automatically selects the appropriate current decay mode (fast decay or slow decay)

  • 45V maximum supply voltage

  • Built-in regulator, no need for an external logic voltage supply

  • Compatible with 3.3V and 5V systems

  • Over-temperature thermal shutdown, over-current shutdown, and under-voltage lockout protection

  • Protection against short-to-ground and shorted-load conditions

  • 4-layer, 2 oz copper PCB for better heat dissipation

  • Exposed solderable ground pad below the driver IC for enhanced cooling
