The MQ-6 Liquefied Petroleum Isobutane Propane Gas Sensor Module is a simple-to-use sensor designed for detecting LPG (primarily composed of propane and butane) concentrations in the air. It can measure gas levels ranging from 200 to 10,000 ppm. The detection range can be adjusted using the onboard potentiometer.
This sensor boasts high sensitivity and fast response times. It outputs an analog resistance signal, and the circuitry required for operation is straightforward. Simply power the heater coil with 5V, add a load resistance, and connect the output to an ADC.
The MQ-6 sensor uses tin oxide (SnO2) as the sensitive material, which has low conductivity in clean air. When the target combustible gas is present, the sensor's conductivity increases in proportion to the gas concentration. A simple circuit converts the change in conductivity to a corresponding gas concentration output signal.
The MQ-6 sensor is highly sensitive to propane, butane, and LPG, with additional response capabilities for natural gas and methane. Its affordability and versatility make it suitable for various applications, particularly in gas leak detection systems.
